White Teas

Ambrosia

We blend our organic white tea leaves with pineapple bits and coconut for a mouth-watering, succulent treat. This tea is totally and completely indulgent. Guilt-free, of course. We love white tea. We especially love the Oothu Estate white tea. This tea comes from the renowned Oothu Estate in the Singampatti rainforest in southern India. Known for its exquisite teas, this spring plucked white tea is simply delightful, luscious, and full bodied.

Lady Lavender

Our newest blend. This was (our wholesale manager/event coordinator/tea goddess) Jessica's lovely inspiration. The creamy richness of the Oothu white tea creates a solid platform for our organic, incredibly aromatic lavender flowers. A well-balanced white tea that is as evocative as it is soothing. No flavorings at all with this one, just tea and lavender.

Oothu White Bai Mudan

A truly magical surprise - amazing Organic Fair Trade white tea from the South of India. Compared to traditional China White Bai Mudan, our fine Oothu is soft and super aromatic. Impeccably pure, sun yellow cup. Rich, hazelnut and chocolate notes with a sparkling clean finish. An exotic pleasure. The Oothu Estate in the Singampatti Rainforest is the oldest organic garden in all of India and produces superb, masterfully crafted teas.

Silver Needle Buds

The finest early spring plucking of the spring buds; only harvested for a few days each year. This is the highest grade organic white tea and has won numerous awards at the global level; a supremely flavorful silver needle. Silver Needle is among the most revered of Chinese teas, produced in the Fuding and Zhenhe districts of Fujian province. This premium tea is produced at the strictest quality standards.

White Blueberry

Our Zhi House Blend White Blueberry is crafted exclusively from our superior grade organic India White Bai Mudan blended with organic blueberries, blue cornflowers, and botanical blueberry flavor. White Rose

We take our organic Oothu Estate white tea and fold in just the right amount of organic rose buds for a really smooth and mild any time of day tea. No flavorings at all with this one so the white tea base is very pronounced. The Oothu Estate is located in the Singampatti rainforest and is one of the first organic and Fair Trade tea estates in the world. Light, refreshing, simple.

White Shizandra

Our Organic White Shizandra begins with our premium organic India Oothu White Peony. We blend in rare organic Shizandra berries and safflower with a hint of natural tangerine essence. The results are a mildly tart, effervescent and flavorful cup. Shizandra is just becoming known in the West for its numerous health benefits and extremely complex flavor. It interacts fabulously with our tea!

Green Teas

Ceylon Green

The lush tropical paradise of Sri Lanka gives birth to this most precious loose leaf tea. The superb balance of gentle, floral notes and a brisk, grassy twang produce a highly refreshing cup. Simply a world class tea from the renowned Idulgashinna Estate; one of the first tea gardens in the world to receive organic certification.

Cherry Sencha

Our smooth and lovely organic Sencha tea with natural cherry flavor and safflower. Simple, elegant, and very refreshing.

Dragon Phoenix - Jasmine Pearls

Jasmine blossoms folded seven times into light baby tea leaves and white buds. The highest grade organic Jasmine Pearls available in the world. Hand rolled in the traditional fashion under the strictest quality control standards. We are proud to offer the world's most exquisite Jasmine Pearl tea that we have admiringly named Dragon Phoenix. Smooth, succulent, satisfying. Several infusions can be made with this delicate yet flavorful tea.

Dragonwell

Our beautiful Organic Long Jing Dragonwell from Zheijiang Province will soothe and refresh. Broad, flat, bold green leaves create an entrancing golden-green liquor. Rich, nutty, and sweet flavor with a nice rounded finish. Meticulously plucked in early spring when they are full of aroma and have a silvery shine, careful hands turn and press the leaves in a firing wok until they obtain their characteristically flat shape.

Gyokuro Imperial

Highest grade available in the US. And it is organic. From the Kyushu prefecture, Kagoshima. Sweet, umame, fresh flavors; low astringency. Rich body and pine notes. Superb and rare tea. Great for several infusions. Note the cooler water temperatures and higher than normal quantity per cup. Expect three amazing infusions. Radiation-free, of course.

Japan Genmaicha

Super high-grade organic Genmai Cha from Japan. An outstanding cup is produced from this perfect combination of lightly roasted, popped brown rice and high-grade green tea leaf. This handsome blend is rich and almost brothy with a delightful sweetness on top of its nutty character. Very low in caffeine. Our true Japanese Organic Genmai Cha can be enjoyed throughout the day and through multiple infusions. AKA Rice Tea, Popcorn Tea.

Japan Sencha I

Our high-grade organic Japanese Sencha exceeds expectations. A spring tea, with a clear light green liquor and a full, slightly bittersweet, fresh grass flavor with notes of sea mist. And a great mouthfeel. Sweet, vegetal, with a pleasant clean finish are the hallmarks of our superior Japan Sencha. Great for several infusions.

Jasmine Green

Our organic jasmine green loose leaf tea was chosen for its well-balanced flavors. Jasmine blossoms are folded into the drying leaves several times to impart their delicate scent. Good for multiple steeps. Jasmine flowers are picked early in the day when the small petals are tightly closed. The flowers are kept cool until nightfall. In the early evening when the flowers begin to open, The green tea is blended with the jasmine flowers.

Kashmiri Chai

Back by popular demand! Another Zhi Signature Blend - Kashmiri Chai. We start with our organic full leaf green tea and blend in the perfect amounts of organic cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, fennel, and a hint of vanilla to create a unique and distinguished healthy chai. Due to the nature of the green tea base, this is a somewhat milder chai than the black varieties; lower in caffeine and with less of a bite.

Kukicha Twig Tea

A lovely light and smooth organic green tea made from toasted twigs and branches of the tea plant. Very low in caffeine, it can be drunk in the evening. Kukicha is made from the stems, stalks, and twigs of the tea plant, and subsequently has a low caffeine content. A gentle, calming and digestive tea with a very enticing, nutty flavor. Greatly renowned in macrobiotic circles, and, of course, Japan where this tea originates.

Matcha Premium

Our top grade Organic Green Tea powder from Japan. Pouches and pounds are Grade AA, tins are Grade AAA, ceremonial. Exotic, potent, and very flavorful. High in antioxidants. Versatile and healthy. Try our Matcha in creative recipes, too.

Moroccan Mint

To create our organic Moroccan Mint tea, we start with our high-quality Gunpowder tea and blend in heaps of fresh organic peppermint leaves. Traditionally this tea is served with copious quantities of sugar. We prefer it straight or with a bit of agave nectar which gives this tea even more body and richness. Crisp, naturally cooling and refreshing, and makes a very nice iced tea!

Pink Grapefruit Sencha

A tiny foil container of an outstanding grapefruit sencha was brought to us from Japan by a friend. We hoarded it, worshipped it, and ultimately finished it off. Months went by and Candice kept bugging me to create a Zhi version. So I did. And it is pretty darn good if I may say so myself.

Temple Gunpowder #1

Classic China Organic Pinhead-sized Gunpowder made of tiny tightly-rolled grey green leaves. Gunpowder tea or "pearl tea" is made by rolling dark green tea leaves into small pellets which resemble gunpowder. It is a nice, strong green tea with a distinctive nutty-oak taste. A traditional favorite of meditating Buddhists (and non-Buddhists). The cup is deep amber with a slightly fruity, smoky-spicy flavor.

Tropical Green

Tropical green tea unlike any other. We use a high grade, tasty sencha tea and fold in real pineapple and papaya pieces, rose petals, calendula and safflowers, for a colorful and incredibly delightful tea. This is fantastic as a chilled tea, as well. We made this to be an unabashedly indulgent tea, so dive in.

Yunwu Cloud and Mist

In our search for superb and unique organic China Green tea we stumbled across this gorgeous delight from Zhejiang Province. Nestled in the Tian Mu mountains lies a pristine tea garden that lovingly creates this outstanding organic tea. Stylish, long and wiry emerald leaf produces a light green infusion which is quite herbaceous, with distinct honey/peach notes. This is a very savory and luscious tea full of body and charm. Simple, yet elegant.

Oolong Teas

Aged Bamboo Oolong - 1990

This is a Grade AAA tea from Spring, 1990, stored in a vacuum seal. We have procured this Aged Oolong from Zhu Shan or Bamboo Mountain in Taiwan. It has been refired or roasted eighteen months to retain and enhance its incredible qualities. It was grown at mid/high elevation from a soft stem varietal, in Zhu Shan, Taiwan. Fantastic rare artisan tea here. Incredibly smooth and complex.

Aged Huang Gan Oolong 1987

Very, very nice medium roast Huan Gan Oolong from spring 1987. Originally intended as a Ti Quan Yin, some of the lot was sequestered by a budding tea master for his first aged tea project. This has been reroasted five times (92, 95, 99, 09, 07) and still retains a well-rounded character with dark plum body and great mouth feel. Richly textured, deep and mineral-y, with stone fruit on the back of the tongue and a soothing long finish.

Aged Oolong - 2004

Bao Zhong Emerald Oolong

This is a rare organic certified Huang Shan Bao Zhong Oolong of the highest grade - made in small artisanal batches. May 2011. Lighter oxidization this year yields a slightly greener taste. Incredibly fresh tasting, long sweet complex tones, light butteriness, and a cool round finish. Our favorite batch of this tea in years.

Eagle Nest

Dive in to the Eagle's Nest! Nestled high above the fertile valleys of Sri Lanka, lies the Idulgashinna Estate, the world's first certified organic tea garden. This designer tea, acquired by Zhi, has all the hallmarks of a world class tea. And indeed it is. Reminiscent of a top-quality second flush Darjeeling, with a distinct muscatel flavor, Eagle Nest is a sweet, malty delight that reveals its deep character over several steepings.

Four Season Spring Oolong

We love this batch! Considered an every day tea in Taiwan for it's consistency and value, it can be often overlooked in the connoisseur's tea vault. In this case, it would be an oversight, we think. This tea has the traditional hallmarks of a great quality mid-elevation lightly roasted Taiwanese oolong very along with distinct white pepper notes and an incredible "lump in the throat" effect that is rarely found.

Frozen Summit Tung Ting

One of our Artisan Reserve organic oolong teas, a line of small batch handmade teas from a craft handed down over generations. Hand selected for having all the hallmark qualities of the highest grades with noteable personality accents. This is a superb tea from April, 2011, stored in a vacuum seal. We have procured this Tung Ting Oolong rare varietal from a small artisan farm in Nantou, Taiwan.

GABA Oolong

The primary difference between GABA (佳葉龍茶) and other types of teas is the way it's processed. Most teas are categorized according to their processing and level of oxidation: black tea being fully oxidized; oolong being partially oxidized; green and white teas being unoxidized.

Ginger Peach Oolong

Zhi House Blend Organic Ginger Peach Oolong is as exotic and luxurious as it sounds. Hand-blended by our master craftswoman, Ginger Peach Oolong is designed to appeal to all your senses. Our top quality organic Shui Xian Oolong, organic ginger root, and organic juicy peach pieces combine to create a superbly refreshing, aromatic, and robust flavor experience. The ginger gives a hint of bright spiciness while the peach adds a touch of sweetness.

Ginseng Oolong

Back by popular demand! This is a spring 2011 organic oolong with a bit of a twist. The rolled leaves, before drying, are rolled with American Ginseng. This gives the resulting cup a subtle earthy ginseng finish. this tea has no licorice for a more authentic taste. This particular batch is exceptional and quite limited. Hand crafted and grown in Huang Shan, China, at 2,400 feet and pesticide-free.

Golden Lily Milk Jin Xuan

A great, well-executed batch of Golden Lily (jin xuan) from Mr Huang's, small, high-elevation artisan farm in Taiwan (1900 feet). Sweet and succulent with a nice crisp floral finish. Creamy and smooth, hence its other name 'Milk Oolong'. This tea is slightly buttery and sweet with a nice, long finish and holds up to many steepings. Hand crafted and grown organically in Nantou, Taiwan and pesticide-free.

Iron Goddess - Ti Kuan Yin

Our Fall 2011 Ti Quan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) is a medium roasted, rolled organic oolong with 40% oxidization and a medium/medium heavy roast. This batch is exquisite! Slightly more buttery and floral than the last two years but perfectly balanced with the roasted qualities. An accompanying earthiness that is accented by a floral sweetness upon finish. Subsequent steeps reveal notes of honey and orchid while the more roasted flavor subsides.

Jade Mountain Yu Shan

Another unique tea that we found had such an interesting personality we could not resist. And the winner of the Austin 2010 Oolong challenge! This is the new spring 2011 Yu Shan, which is similar to last year's winner, but has a bit more floral notes and honeysuckle and a mysterious back of the throat feel.. Really, really smooth and inviting. This tea is really limited and very special. Steep after steep reveals a kaleidescope of flavors.

Orange Blossom Oolong

We invite you to try our Zhi House Blend Orange Blossom Oolong, crafted specifically to enhance the intrinsic beauty and flavor of our organic Shui Xian Oolong loose leaf tea. Organic orange peel and Calendula marigold petals combine to make a complex, slightly citrus Orange Blossom with distinct floral notes. Mild, yet very sexy, this Organic Orange Blossom is not only a conversation starter, it is a conversation enhancer!

Oriental Beauty

One of our Artisan Reserve oolong teas, a line of small batch handmade teas from a craft handed down over generations. Oriental Beauty Oolong Tea is an oolong tea also known as Bai Hao Oolong or Champagne Formosa. The name Bai Hao means white tip and refers to the small tender white buds that are picked along with the top two leaves.

Plum Oolong

Zhi House Blend Organic Plum Oolong is a smooth and relaxing treat. Our Shui Xian oolong is blended with rich, succulent plum flavor to make this Plum Oolong. Plum Oolong yields a natural fruit flavor, and a gentle warming cup. While the plum flavor has a nice depth of character on its own, we enjoy how it enhances rather than covers up the oolong leaves with this Plum Oolong.

Royal Courtesan

Winter 2011 version of our well-loved Gui Fei Royal Courtesan. This tea is extremely limited. It has a long round clover honey sweetness, surrounded by wildflower notes and a nice tilled soil kind of depth. What makes this honey oolong stand out from the others we cupped when selecting this type of tea is the intense aromatics, overall body of the liquor, and complexity of flavor.

Ancient Forest Black

This incredible black tea from Southeast Asia comes from 500-800 year old reclaimed tea trees in the remote H'mong village. A fair trade system was set up for the villagers who manage and care for these precious tea trees to help protect the tea and reward the caregivers. The resulting tea is totally smooth and malty, like a fine keemun. the cup is deep golden brown with a caramel nose.

Assam Black Decaf

Our top quality Organic Assam Black full leaf, naturally decaffeinated (co2 process). Best organic decaf black tea on the market, hands down.

Assam Breakfast

Enjoy a steaming cup of our hearty Organic Assam Breakfast. Keemun Mao Feng

Nilgiri Blue Mountain Black

From the Korakundah Estate in in the Blue Mountains of India we bring you this outstanding Organic India Black tea. Deeply colored twisty full leaf and a deep reddish amber liquor with notes of orange and honeysuckle. Korakundah is one of the highest estates in the world, in Nilgiri (neeljeeree), and produces some lovely teas; this is our favorite. A very satisfying and rich organic black tea that has a long smooth finish.

Nine Dragon Yunnan

Our complex, rich and full-flavored organic black gold buds/needles from Yunnan. A vivacious, smart honeyed liquor; bright coppery leaves with many gold tips; a mysterious ever-so-lightly smoky finish. This richly layered tea presents a bouquet of wildflowers and wine that evolve through subsequent steepings. A truly superb Organic Yunnan Black. Many find it to be a perfect afternoon restorative; soothing and energizing.

Plumberry Black

A simple, yet extraordinarily flavorful organic black tea blend with hibiscus and osmanthus flowers, with natural plum and red berry flavor extract. A fantastic summer tea that is also great hot.

Pu-erh

An outstanding and authentic loose leaf Organic Yunnan Pu-erh. Pu-erh is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after teas in China after spending centuries shrouded in obscurity. Vintage cake pu-erh can sell for more than the price of a car! This rare organic pu-erh is a dark black medium leaf that when infused creates a deep reddish-brown liquor. At once earthy and nutty-sweet, this pu-erh is much more complex than most.

Royal Gold Yunnan Needle

Exquisite, rare, high-altitude Royal Gold Yunnan tea. This needle tea, along with our Silver needle, is considered to be one of the finest teas in the world. Ours is completely comprised of copper-y, soft, curly buds. The dry leaf is quite aromatic; deep woodiness, tobacco, and floral hints. Once steeped, the leaf denotes hints of honeysuckle, with an autumnal richness. In the cup we find a deep caramel color and complex aromatics.

Rooibos Teas

Ginger and Lime Green Rooibos

Zesty and uplifitng, this blend is a caffeine-free suprantioxidant treat. Instead of red or fermented rooibos, we use the green raw rooibos along with ginger pieces and lime. This blend has also proven to be a popular hit as an iced tea. Very cooling and refreshing.

Honeybush

Our South Africa Honeybush is a wonderful zero-caffeine herbal beverage. Mild and sweet, with bit more natural honey-like sweetness than rooibos. Our top-quality Honeybush has a distinctive clover-honey character. Reputed health benefits are numerous and include stomach soothing, anti-oxidant properties and a soothing/calming effect. Kenya Chai

Zhi Signature Blend Kenya Chai begins with our organic Red Rooibos and we fold in copious amounts of organic cinnamon, cardamom, ginger root, blue cornflowers, stevia leaf, and vanilla essence to create an intoxicating herbal tisane. Our popular South African Honeybush is paired with a perfect splash of organic vanilla to create a warming, incredibly smooth herbal drink. Here it is. Thank you to the folks at Runa for turning us on to this AMAZING herb. Incredibly smooth, with a taste eerily similar to GABA Oolong. This is an energizing tea, similar in effect to maté, but with much different flavor characteristics. Firstly, it has no grassy taste and is incredibly smooth. No bitterness and a hint of natural sweetness. A long steep produces an incredible mouth feel, as well.

Saigon Rose (with Lemongrass)

We created this organic tea blend for a really soothing and satisfying hot beverage. As lemongrass is such a warming and calming herb we wanted to create something that highlighted its simple qualities. The addition of the tiny organic rosebuds adds a nice subtle accentuation of rose. The flavors mingle extremely well and the resulting tissane is just what we wanted, unimposing and satisfying.
