OpenMenu API v1.8

We’ve released an update to our API to give developers more options when accessing restaurants on the OpenMenu Platform.

Changes:

  • Added a new menu call – you can not only search based on a menu item name or description but you can also query our database for information on any unique id (attached to menus, menu groups and menu items)
  • Added longitude and latitude output parameter to the location and restaurant call

OpenMenu on Blogger / Blogspot

Easily get your restaurant’s OpenMenu onto Blogger using OpenMenu Embedded.

How to:

  1. Locate your restaurant using our Search and click the restaurant’s name to access it’s base page on OpenMenu
  2. Click the OpenMenu Embed link in the OpenMenu Information section
  3. Set your options and copy the Embedded Code
  4. Open your Blogger post and click the HTML button next to the Compose button
  5. Paste the Embedded Code into your post (making sure you are in HTML mode)
  6. Adjust the Height on the embedded code to show your full menu without scrollbars

Joomla Plugin / Module v1.1 released

Our OpenMenu Joomla Plugin / Module just keeps getting better.  The current release aligns our Joomla solution with all other solutions in terms of rendering menus.

What’s new

  • Add support for Use Short Tag menu rendering option
  • Update the OpenMenu Reader and Render engine to the latest version

Introducing OpenMenu Cloud

OpenMenu Cloud

OpenMenu Cloud takes any OpenMenu and creates a word cloud from all the menu items.  The more popular an item, the larger the font.  A fun way to analyze a restaurant’s OpenMenu.

To access a restaurant’s OpenMenu Cloud use our search tool to locate the restaurant and then click the OpenMenu Cloud link in the Labs section.

OpenMenu WordPress Plugin v1.6.3 released

Our popular WordPress Plugin has been updated based on suggestions from our users.

  • Added ‘Include Mobile Link’ to QR Code widget so a direct link to a restaurants mobile site on OpenMenu is displayed
  • Updated some copy to better align with the OpenMenu brand
  • Fixed state missing from Restaurant Location widget
  • Fixed ref parameter

Joomla Plugin/Module in the Joomla Extension Directory

Our Joomla Plugin and Module are now officially part of the Joomla Extension Directory.

“Easily add restaurant menus into Joomla that are directly connected to an OpenMenu. Fully integrates an OpenMenu(s) into a new or existing Joomla website. Your Joomla site will now automatically stay in sync with your restaurant’s OpenMenu.”

New Options Added to OpenMenu Embed

New options have been added to OpenMenu Embed to give restaurants even more control over the look and feel.

What’s new:

  • You can now control what 2-column menus split on: menu items or menu groups
  • Support for the new short tag system has been added.

OpenMenu Now Supports “Private” Restaurants

The latest version of the OpenMenu Format introduced a new attribute called “private”.  This attribute allows non-public restaurants and eating establishments to use the OpenMenu Platform without the restaurant being included in our large distribution network.

This means places like school and work-place cafeterias, college campus food halls and other non-public eating places can use the power of OpenMenu.

To take advantage of this just mark your restaurant as “private” from the Restaurant Information section in the OpenMenu Creator.  Your restaurant will be excluded from all searches on OpenMenu.
